Describe how you felt during one of the activities we did this evening (during our live lecture). Was it difficult or easy? How can you apply what you experienced/felt/learned to your teaching style or content moving forward.
write sometihing like this – During our live lecture this evening, we engaged in a core activity game that prompted me to reflect on the challenges of understanding a student’s needs, particularly when they have a limited vocabulary and struggle to express themselves effectively. This experience highlighted the common struggle of interpreting a student’s communication, especially when they rely on assistive devices to convey their thoughts and emotions. The core board activity served as a powerful reminder that many educators face similar difficulties in comprehending their students’ needs and intentions.
As I navigated through the core activity game, I realized the importance of empathy and patience when working with students who encounter communication barriers. This experience underscored the need for educators to cultivate a deep understanding of their students’ unique challenges and to adapt their teaching style to accommodate diverse communication abilities. Moving forward, I aim to integrate the insights gained from this activity into my teaching approach, emphasizing the significance of creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that caters to the individual needs of each student. By leveraging this newfound understanding, I am committed to refining my teaching style to better address the communication challenges faced by my students and foster a more inclusive and empathetic educational experience. Moving forward, I can apply this understanding to my teaching style by
incorporating core boards into my classroom to help students learn how
to use them effectively. I can also use this experience to emphasize the
significance of patience and exposure to diverse language usage,
similar to learning a new language, in order to facilitate effective
communication. By integrating core boards into various play, learning,
and routine activities, I can provide a supportive environment for
students to improve their communication skills and express themselves
more confidently. During this activity in class, it was challenging to understand the one specific word, “sandwich,” that was trying to be convened through using phrases like “everyone,” “later,” “eat.” After this activity, I could now understand why a child may easily become frustrated when it comes to communicating because it takes a lot of guessing and trial and error to understand what they are trying to say.
