One of the most famous boycotts in the U.S. was in the 1950s during the Civil Rights Movement—the Montgomery bus boycotts that led to the end of segregation on city buses in Montgomery, Alabama. Today, people turn to social media to inspire change. Is such activism today as effective as the activism used prior to the development of social media; does it have the same power, the same push to motivate change? Or, does it lack the same force because it often does not require people to become physically involved?
