Writing 3 must be 5-12 pages long, double-spaced, using 1″ margins and a standard font like Times New Roman. Please provide a title and a heading with your name, the assignment name (Writing 3), and the date. Please use page numbers.
Content and possible directions:
Option 1: Write any nonfiction that is on your mind.
Option 2: Write a piece of nonfiction in a nontraditional form, like the Machado piece. Your piece might take on the form of a game, or it might borrow heavily from some other genre of writing–from romance novel to legal brief. Choose a genre or format that you know well or have time to study to get to know well.
Option 3: Write a piece of nonfiction in the form of a letter, like Baldwin and Coates. (You might start by doing Option 1 and then discover there is a perfect “addressee” for that piece and turn it into a letter.)
Option 4: Write a piece of nonfiction that meditates on (looks at from several angles–digs deep) the definition of a single term or concept. Examples: Mindfulness, heartbreak, empathy. Infuse your meditation with detailed, vibrant examples from your own life experiences with that term/concept.
