lWrite a research paper discussing Factors influencing Gun Ownership in the United States Dependent Variable: Gun ownership Rates Regressors: Crime rate, Square miles of Public land, Income, Education Gun ownership in the United States has been well documented as being part and parcel of the country’s founding. More recently and controversially is the constitutional aspect of gun ownership. Many declare that gun ownership in all of its’ flavors and varieties is a basic constitutional right (Second Amendment) whilst others opine that reasonable limits to the type of arms allowed and the persons allowed to own guns and ammunition, can acceptably live within the constitutional framework. It would be interesting to develop a regression equation that tracks gun ownership rates in the States of the country pursuant to a number of factors. Crime rates in different areas could be greatly influencing in gun ownership in both directions, i.e. gun ownership could be greater in areas of high crime due to a feeling of need for protection by the law-abiding public living nearby. On the other hand, gun ownership may be higher in areas of low crime rates as gun ownership may be viewed as a deterrent by criminals. Further factors influencing gun ownership may be the ability to hunt or train with weapons. Public land is key to these activities and the more Public land available could influence the gun ownership numbers in that particular area. Income and Education may factor into gun ownership in that, higher income and more education may tend towards less violent means of confrontation or recreational pursuits. Information for the data sample would be from the statistics of each of the States in the Union. Regressors chosen are: (x1) Crime rate – regressor indicating the crime rate based upon the amount of burglaries per 100,000 of the population in that region.
