Select three newspapers from three cities in the U.S.. Find one significant (detailed) news story from each city newspaper (3 stories total) that focuses on the same type of crime. (Each story should report a separate crime incident.) What are the common forms of information reported in all the stories? What is reported in one or some stories but not all? What kind of words are used to describe the crimes that occurred? What kind of information do you think is missing that the public ought to know? Is there any information in any story that potentially “grabs” the reader, also any information that might be confusing or misleading? Stepping back, how do you see the news stories being constructed for the reader?
