Given all that we’ve read so far this semester, what would be some concrete policy reforms that you would propose to make the juvenile justice system more just and fair? Be careful to not come up with moral platitudes (e.g., teaching youth right from wrong) or broad/unfeasible ideas (e.g., eradicating poverty). Instead, consider focusing on a particular issue or idea within the juvenile justice system (e.g., risk assessments, gender-specific programming, diversion, reentry, racial disparities, judicial nonintervention) and do research on what has been tried so far in order to justify your own ideas. By journal articles/e-books, I mean peer-reviewed academic journals and books that are empirical studies like the ones we’ve read in class (e.g., NOT newspaper articles or textbooks).
