NIOSH is a professional organization that helps develop safe practices when working with hazardous drugs. Studies show that an estimated 8 million health care workers in the US are exposed to HDs every year which leads to genetic damage. One of the items that USP<800> and NIOSH recommends is the use of Closed-System Transfer Devices (CSTDs) to reduce exposure to hazardous drugs.
