Looking ahead to the next week (week beginning 5/12), the theme of the week “Emotional Disability,” which is a disability where children have difficulty regulating their emotions or behaviors, and this gets in the way of their learning at school. It is a very broad category that can include several different clinical diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, conduct disorder, aggressive behaviors, and even childhood schizophrenia. In Ch.5, reading the heading “Emotional Disturbance and Behavioral Disorder.” In Ch.6, start at the heading “Behavioral Disorders.” Based on this reading, I ask the group leaders to create five discussion questions for your group members.
