Note the discussion using the Sociological Perspectives. The Functionalism theory believes that gender differentiation helps maintain social stability. Conflict theorists believe that inequality exists between men and women, with men in a dominant position over women. And while I haven’t pushed the Feminist perspective, here it needs to be acknowledged, particularly because of the term intersectionality, where all the factors of race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status come together to show how one group is disadvantaged on many fronts. The interactionist perspective is short: a discussion of how people “do” the gender role. Mod. 35 – We go into more detail into gender roles. Note the difference between Gender identity and Sexual identity. Labeling of people is discussed here, and the use of labels is an important tool in how people are perceived. It can be quite damaging if done in a negative way.
