How does it educate you on your major?

1) Write self-reflectively about your intellectual process as you read the text. Engage particular questions or problems that arise for you as you read the text. 2) Further explore the question or problem you discovered during stage 1 by finding relevant sources that contextualize their original reading. Your text, based on your major (or major you may choose), will be an academic text. This academic text is a reading (non-fiction) of substantive length that relates to your major. It could be a book related to your major, a scholarly article, or a detailed online analysis from a website. It should be written by an expert in your major field, or someone with a similar academic background as your major (for example, the author received their degree in the discipline which is your major). The first part of the exploratory writing will address these questions: 1-Describe one question or problem that arises for you as you read the text. 2-How does the text “speak to” your major? 3-How does it educate you on your major? 4-What lines of inquiry could result from information in the text? What are at least two ideas the author states in the text that you could create a thesis and do research on? The second part of the exploratory writing will address these questions: Look at the references/works cited/bibliography section of your text (or website). Look at two sources the author cites. Read those two sources. 1-How does each source relate to the author’s argument/thesis/main point? 2-Is the information in each source useful to your major/field of interest? Why or why not?
