How might we reconsider genre through television given an increased interplay with other mediums such as comics, novels and literature?

“The Mandalorian, Watchmen, various Marvel TV shows, and similar works reflect an increased interplay with other mediums—such as graphic novels, comic books, and blockbuster films, not to mention literature—in contemporary television. With this in mind, how might we reconsider genre through television? Is a television-oriented approach better suited for engaging with texts outside of the medium, or might earlier efforts to approach television through film and literary studies have renewed purpose? Drawing on Jason Mittell’s “A Cultural Approach to Television Genre Theory,” how does this interplay affect the ways in which we might consider television and genre, and its relevance to other forms of media? How can this relationship be interpreted in terms of today’s milieu?”
