We will examine:*Several worldwide events:the beginnings of what became known as Western Civilizationthe development and expansion of ancient Greecethe development and expansion of ancient RomeEurope’s transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissancethe split of medieval Christianity into Catholicism and Protestantismthe impacts of warfare, economic change, and scientific discovery*A period of fundamental change: the rise and decline of empires and the growth and development of Europe*How people came to view the world around them:the emergence and expansion of different viewpoints—political, economic, religious, scientific, etc.—that created a set of values and beliefs which characterizes the history known as Western Civilization.Related to these events, changes, and world views are consequences such as the relationship of people to their governing and religious bodies; changes in how people earned their subsistence; conflicting ideologies regarding what constitutes a good life; and the consequences of warfare in the development and reshaping of both empires and political states.From all the above comes a fundamental question that forms the basis of your final essay–a question that relates to each of the seven course modules:In the emergence and the expansion of what becomes Western Civilization, how do the influences of early civilizations (Mesopotamia and Egypt) and the Greek and Roman Empires help shape the growth and development of Europe? Essay Instructions:The basic requirements for the essay are listed below:1. The essay must be a minimum of seven pages in length (approximately 1,750 words), typewritten and double spaced. Students can write more if they choose to do so. The essay must be done in 12-point, Times New Roman, and the margins must be 1.25 inches on both sides, and 1 inch on the top and bottom. Type your name, date, and course listing (HIS 113-SLN), in the upper right-hand corner of the first page.*Whatever word processing program is used, students are responsible for submitting the essay with the required point size, font, and page margins. Once the essay is finished, attach the document into the proper online course section (Module 7: “Submit Final Paper Here.”). Please submit the paper in either a .pdf format or a Word format.2. Regardless of the essay’s final length, the student’s writing must demonstrate a correct application of the standard conventions of English. These include, but are not limited to, proper spelling and punctuation, correct grammar, clean typing, and proper transition sentences between paragraphs.*I will deduct up to 50 points for failing to fulfill the requirements listed above in items 1 and 2.3. At a minimum, the essay should be structured in this manner:*Paragraph one: State your thesis. This sentence(s) should address the question and explicitly make reference to two of the five course themes.*Paragraphs two through eight: Put forth the evidence to support your thesis. Your essay must be comprehensive and chronological. Thus, your thesis must be supported by evidence or examples from each of the content modules (one through seven). Please cite material from both textbooks and, as in the posts, use the parenthetical method of citation. Only cite material from the two textbooks assigned for this class.*Paragraph nine: Your conclusion should summarize your argument and explicitly and accurately incorporate two of the five course themes.4.
