Mr. Roe is a first time offender. Mr. Roe resides in Detroit, Michigan with his wife and four children. He is employed at an automobile factory in Detroit where he earns approximately $85,000 per year. He is deeply in debt and finds it difficult to make ends meet each month. He has been distraught about his conviction and his degree of indebtedness. He meets with you on March 9th of this year for his monthly reporting day and tells you about his financial situation. He states his wife is unable to work because the daycare for 4 children is more than she can make. You suggest that he slowly work to pay off his bills and offer assistance in setting up the family budget at the next meeting, which is scheduled for April 10th. On March 12th of this year, after filling the tank of his SUV with gasoline, he drove away without paying. The proprietor of the gas station was able to obtain Mr. Roe’s license plate number and reported the incident to the police. On March 13th of this year, the police arrested Mr. Roe for the above alleged crime. Due to living in the area, he was released on a ROR (release on own recognizance) bond. On April 10th, you meet with Mr. Roe and have contacted a financial planner who is also present. An hour is spent going over the expenses and a new budget is formed. One thing suggested is that Mr. Roe sell his SUV and get a vehicle that requires less gas. The next report day is May 16th. On May 15th, Mr. Roe was convicted of theft by a Michigan Circuit (state) court. He received a sentence of 6 months of community service. On May 16th, you meet with Mr. Roe who tells you about his court appearance. Conditions of Probation 1. You must not violate any laws.2.
