2.When we read On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong we spoke about generational trauma. We discussed how trauma gets passed down and affects families of the generations that follow. Using a psychoanalytic lens, as well as the video interviews and audio clips we viewed in class, write an essay that explains how the book explores the idea of family trauma. Does each character realize the hurt they place on “Little Dog”? How does Little Dog’s understanding of his family dynamic help him find his sense of self? Do you think this text is an accurate representation on immigrant children? Some moments to consider but are not limited to: Little Dog’s relationship with Lan and the stories she tells, Little dog’s relationship with Paul and Rose and how they communicate, and Little Dog’s experience with bullies (page 24)
