An article for the Afro-Hispanic Review on an aspect of Afro-Latin America Due: May 11, 2020 “Afro-Mexicans are like sugar in coffee: you can’t see them, but they make the whole thing taste much better.” –Sagrario Cruz-Carretero GOALS: –To discover or uncover the history of people without history. –To explore how world view is shaped by societal and cultural contexts. –To present topic/person/concept from Latin America in a meaningful way to further the class’s understanding of a particular aspect of Afro-Latin America. –To demonstrate through a well-organized essay at least one of the course goals (see syllabus). You will articulate this aspect of the assessment through a self-assessment at the end of the course. INSTRUCTIONS: You are a journalist whose assignment is to write an article for the Afro-Hispanic Review on an aspect of Afro-Latin America–culture, history, art, music, literature, religion or politics. From the context of the issues, texts and frameworks we’ve explored in class, research and write an extended essay (5-6 pages) and include a Works Cited (Obras citadas) page with 5-10 sources (books, chapters, articles, films, websites, infographics) about the concept/issue/person/relationship you have chosen. The Works Cited page should conform to APA or MLA conventions. It should be abundantly clear in essay how your learning in class has shaped your work.
