While you have flexibility in choosing what to write, your individual paper needs to have a coherent theme relevant to the ethical topic you studied and be written clearly and systematically. For example, if your group presentation is about “OT” in Japan, then your individual paper should be related to OT. And, it can move to the study of OT in Hong Kong or mainland China. Students may change the case/theory/position/recommendation/social context, but students should not collaborate with each other in writing his/her own paper. The individual paper should reflect your ability in understanding, integrating, and evaluating ideas you learned from the readings/lectures and applying them in the real world. Also, please try to formulate a new and powerful title for your paper. As I said in the class, I hope to see the dilemma or ethical problem in your paper. In this regard, I want to see the tension and conflicts between different values, or a strong and urgent message to the audience: something is wrong, and we need to figure out a solution through theory-driven analysis. Moreover, when conducting theory-driven analysis, both the depth of thought and the feasibility of your recommended solutions will be highly valued. You are allowed, and indeed encouraged, to draw on academic materials outside the required readings. Also if you want to use data/tables/figures in your paper, you may use technical appendix. You are encouraged to submit a preliminary draft to me to have one round of revision (just one round for each student, and a full draft is expected, not an outline or an incomplete draft), and I will be happy to provide comments on your preliminary draft for your revisions. Only the final version will be graded. But you have to send your preliminary full draft to me at least four days before the due date for comments. The full mark for this final paper is 60. Here are the standards I will use to grade individual final papers:A+ (60): Dare to challenge conventional wisdom in business ethics and business practices, conduct solid theoretical analysis, and provide innovative and convincing solution to a serious issue in business ethics management;A (54): Show the capability to conduct independent analysis of business ethics issues by critically using relevant theoretical framework, conducting sophisticated data analysis and presenting logical and consistent argumentation;B+ (48): Show the capability to write a logical and consistent paper on business ethics management, perform theory-driven analysis and produce insightful ideas – beyond commonplace ideas;B (42): Demonstrate your familiarity with both theories/concepts and the reality of business ethics management and the ability to apply theories to analyze ethical dilemmas in specific contexts/situations;C+ (36): Show familiarity with the core issue, concepts and theories of business ethics management, show some integration with the literature and further development beyond the previous case study group project presentation;C (30): Simply duplicate the group project presentation, without further development; poor writing and inconsistent logic in the final paper.D+ and D (18-24): Can barely present the facts; unable to express your ideas in the paper, too many grammar errors; largely rely on third-party/online information, with high similarity score (much higher than the benchmark 10%) in the Turnitin report.
