The author talks of the Tohoku, a region in Japan, as a provider of food, a hub of small manufacturers of parts, nuclear power development, and generation. This is evident in the growth of Tohoku to becoming the largest supplier of rice until its unprecedented decline. Also, it was doing well in terms of providing jobs to people living around until the wages decreased. It majorly affected women who preferred to keep the jobs than a complaint of underpayment. Tohoku became a significant supplier of electricity for Tokyo, where in response, other businesses began to promote it, leading to a largescale supply of electricity. Consequently, there was an emergence of other electricity plants, which were later merged into nine plants. Due to excess supply, the government had to make one a monopoly to prevent others from entering the business, especially plants that used natural energy electric power. Tohoku’s involvement in nuclear power generation and development led to the innovation of nuclear weapons, and the emergence of oil became security to promote nuclear power in developing weapons. Later, Tohoku became a supplier of primary produce and workforce due to globalization, although, it was exposed to competition from Asia. The occurrence of Tsunamis and Earthquakes in the area led to the decline of Tohoku that eventually made it difficult to reconstruct. There was less population, and a majority of the businesses were shut down, hoping for international intervention in disaster management. With the knowledge of the dangerous location of Tohoku and its proneness to Tsunamis and earthquakes, I would not expect the government to invest so much in the development of nuclear plants but preferably something natural in nature.
