Construct a claim/resolution regarding a current event and analyze that claim/resolution using the Toulmin model or the stock issues model. An example of a claim could be “The United States should reform police practices” or “The United States Congress should support Trump’s Infrastructure Plan” or “The United States should require masks be worn in public places”. Students are welcome to choose another topic to work with as long as it as a connection to public affairs and a strong argument theory foundation from a concept we have discussed in class. Students should email the instructor for approval of their topic. Failure to get approval of your topic could result in you receiving a failing grade on the assignment if you choose a topic that is inappropriate.3.
