Choose one verse from either the book of Amos in the TaNaK/Old Testament or the book of 2 Corinthians in the New Testament. Read that verse closely and with reference to the four contexts (immediate, literary, historical-cultural, and canonical). Write a 500-600 word paper that does the following: Opens with an introduction that quotes and identifies your passage (book, chapter, verse, version) as well as giving a short explanation about how or why you chose it. Briefly explains two elements of the structure/grammar/words of the verse and then uses elements from two different contexts (immediate, literary, historical-cultural, and canonical) to help explain its main point. Identifies which testament and which part of that testament the verse falls within (e.g., in the Ketuvim/Writings of the Old Testament). Then locate the main point of your verse within the broader story of the Bible, especially as set forth in the videos from the Bible Project. If you need a bit of a reference point, review the video “The Story of the Bible.” Explain how your particular verse fits into some element of the larger story of the Bible.
