Write a narrative essay about a time you learned something–about a time you were “educated.” It may be something concrete (you learned how to ride a bike or make chicken soup) or it may be more abstract (you learned friends can be cruel as well as kind; you learned how to be a good liar; you learned how to survive loss). Consider the learning that happens inside and outside of school. Show (don’t just tell) the story. A story–this story–must have a beginning, middle, and end. Add details. Structure it so as to reveal something important, or structure it so that something changes in either the teller, a character, or the audience. What did you learn? How did you learn it? Who was there? What happened? How do you know you learned it? What was the lesson (in that experience)? What is the lesson/message for your reader?
