Write a summary/extended abstract of an article that has been published on chemistry. Aim for a paper that deals with some aspect of chemistry covered in CHM 2025 (i.e., physical and chemical changes, chemical compounds, chemical reactions, gas behavior) or topics relating to chemistry (i.e. plastics, biochemistry, environmental chemistry, rocket fuels, alternative fuels). Focus your choice on an article specifically on chemistry. The objective of this exercise is to have students read and understand a selected topic in chemistry. . Your report should be written in an impersonal passive voice at a level that would be understood by and impress your peers (undergraduate chemistry students). Your summary should include the following sections; 1.Motivation for the research (context, background and central research question)2.Experimental methodology (approach taken in answering the research question/s)3.Results and Conclusions of the published researchYou may reproduce or adapt data and/or figures (in full or in part) from the paper in order to illustrate your description. (Remember, if a figure or table is worth including in your report, it must be worth writing about and interpreting). Your report should be written in a succinct technical style and be fully referenced using numbered endnotes. Introduction, Motivation and Context 1.1 Describe the central research question or problem outlined by the authors and provide some context. This section should include some description of the motivation for the study (toxicity, persistence, endochrine disruption etc). Most papers in the primary literature will have a fairly narrow focus. 1.2 Provide some background needed to assist yout understanding of the paper and it’s connection to CHM 2025. What is the central research question or problem? What is the context for this question or problem (where does the chemical compound come from, is it toxic or bioavailable, how persistent is it, what does it change into?) What are the chemical speciations and/or fate of the contaminant/s studied? How is it distributed in environment? What can you say about solubility, mobility, sources and sinks? 2. Experimental design/Data Analysis 2.1 Describe how the authors approached the problem or central question. Do not describe detailed analytical procedures or methodologies (simply state what was done and cite an appropriate reference). What type of experiments were preformed? How were they designed to address a specific question? 2.2 Describe how the data was analyzed, presented and interpreted. You may include representative data tables and/or figures to illustrate their methodology and interpretation. 3. Results and Conclusions Summarize the key results of the paper and describe what conclusions the authors draw from the study. You may include representative data tables and/or figures to illustrate their results and/or conclusions. What do the data tell us? What does this study tell us? How do the results relate back to the broader context of the problem?
