The energy resources used today are hurting the environment and becoming more limited. Yet, many countries are financially invested to continue the mining and sourcing of unsustainable energy. As such, the acquiring of these resources creates a lot of political debate, determines how nations work with others, and can possibly even cause wars. That is why conducting research about alternative green energy sources is important. Society shouldn’t wait till (CO2) emissions negatively affect the earth and causes a catastrophe. The question is what are the best energy resource options for the near future and how can they become a reality? To begin with, Fang-Yu Liang, et al (2009) in “The Role of Natural Gas as a Primary Fuel in the near Future, Including Comparisons of Acquisition, Transmission and Waste Handling Costs of as with Competitive Alternatives” explains that natural gas produces substantially less toxic substances when burned, compared to coal and oil. It is more efficient in its production of heat and electricity. This results in lower (CO2) emissions. “Natural gas can be used in many ways to help reduce the emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere as it emits fewer harmful pollutants” (Liang, 2009, p.1). It can be used for houses, businesses, industries, transit, various ways of heating and energy production. The natural gas market has been volatile and overall very low compared to most other resources except coal which is cheaper. The demand and use of natural gas are steadily rising and will continue to grow in the near future. Most of the world’s natural gas production is in the United States. A few barriers that prevent natural gas from becoming used more is the transportation and infrastructure required to use it. This article showed an alternative energy resource that could be used in the near future, and it would not take a lot to make it a reality.Natural gas is an alternative resource, but what about renewable resources like solar energy? Felix Hermerschmidt (2016) attempts to answer this question in his article, “Beyond Solar Radiation Management – the Strategic Role of Low-Cost Photovoltaics in Solar Energy Production.” Hermerschmidt (2016) explains that as greenhouse gases grow in density, trapped infrared radiation will continue to grow. He says people need to utilize solar radiation management to stop the growing radiation in our atmosphere “Some scientists believe that this could occur if greenhouse gas emissions are reduced, while others believe that this can be achieved only by removing them from the atmosphere altogether”(Hermerschmidt, 2016, p.1). Solar panels are a way to reduce solar radiation. Hermerschmidt believes the ultimate renewable energy source is the sun, it’s sustainable and the cleanest source in the world. “The energy contained in the sunlight striking the earth for 40 min is equivalent to one year’s global energy consumption” (Hermerschmidt, 2016, p.3). He says using low-cost photovoltaics, which is used in solar panels, in a strategic way will lead to a viable economic adoptability. Using solar energy is not capable of 100% renewable energy production. To get 100% renewable energy production, people will need to use multiple clean sources together, to compensate for each other.
