Read and respond to the article “The ‘Wizard of Oz’ as a Monetary Allegory” by Hugh Rockoff. This article ties together the currency issues of the late 19th century and the beloved story by L. Frank Baum which would be made into a classic movie in 1939. (I suspect that if you are familiar with the story it is because of the movie but Rockoff goes back to the original book.) See if you think Rockoff gives a plausible explanation for the story as a monetary parable.
