The first thing to do would be to sit down with the patient and his spouse to discuss their complaint. As the RN I need to understand where this dissatisfaction is coming from so I can know if it is something that the staff are doing directly or is it something that they are not doing that the couple perceives they should be. It also gives me a chance to find out if the spouse is the only one unsatisfied and Shaun is either indifferent or happy with service. Using open ended questions and asking for clarification would help me act as a good communicator and ensure I could advocate for the patient’s best interest in regard to this issue ( Catalano 2020).Depending on the reason for the underlying issue I would provide education to the couple to help them understand the services the care team provides and what to expect. I would also bring these concerns to the team so the individual members could address them as well ensuring the couple knew their concerns were heard and the team is all on the same page. If the issue stemmed from care or personality conflict I would bring that to the attention of the team and build a plan with the couple to address it either through various goals and improved communication or if needed to provide a satisfactory resolution assigning a different staff member in those positions.Which of the common role(s) as a home health nurse are most important for the RN managing this situation? The roles most important to resolve this issue will be Client Advocate, Educator, and Care Coordinator (Treas et al. 2018) As the educator I am making sure the client and family are aware of the services being provided and the resources available to them. As the Advocate I am learning what their needs and concerns are and ensuring they are addressed to the best of the care team’s ability. As the Care Coordinator I am ensuring the team is addressing the needs and goals of the patient and family and providing referrals and follow up if they are not, coordinating with other members and providers as needed.References:Catalano, J. DavisLAKOTA CUMMINGSIn the following situation we encounter a patient who is not satisfied with the services that are receiving at home from aid as well as a physical therapist. is the RN managing this patient’s care it’s important to receive the patient’s statement, as well as listen to them and decipher why they do not agree with the services that are receiving from these personnel. These personnel that are described are part of the interdisciplinary team that are involved in the care of this patient post hospitalization. It’s important to relay this information to not only the people in charge of these providers, but as well as the main healthcare provider for this patient. It is also important to share this information to your manager, a person that oversees you, as they can help to assist with the changing of the situation.Within the home health setting the home care nurse completes many tasks. First things first the nurse is to check on the page and has ordered by the provider, as well as perform the task the provider has given such as providing medications, blood draws, animals, catheter care, as well as any types of IV therapy. ” A home nurse can usually administer any task that is taken care of in a hospital (Luther, 2018)”. checking medications for the patients is also important as this helps to make sure the patient is receiving the proper dose as well as the proper medication. This may also involve organizing the medications for the patient in a daily medication administration tray. It’s also important for the home nurse to be completing patient assessments, this is important to regularly check vital signs and report any problems to the physician. Not only is the home nurse responsible for assessments, medications and etc that’s described above but it’s also important for the nurse to maintain a sanitary living environment for the patient. not necessarily cleaning the whole house, but making sure the patient is clean with personal hygiene keeping the bed clean etc.The important role a Home nurse plays in this situation is the fact they are part of a team of people working for one goal; that being proper reintegration into a home living situation. The nurse is the patient advocate and needs to try and resolve the issue for the patient, by getting both sides of the story and even possibly involving both of the parties in the care plan discussion. Find out what it is the patient does not necessarily desire, and act accordingly on it. ReferenceLuther, C. (2018, June 29). Role & Duties of a Home Care Nurse.
