This page resonates and explains the different agencies and resources that are offered from the DHS.One of those just to name a few that I wasn’t aware of prior to exploring this web sight is the academic engagement portion. The academic engagement deals with the educational institutions across the globe. They get much guidance and information from the different areas and studies of the major universities. Matters of risk on campuses are a huge mission of the DHS. Since the different school shootings that have rang out across global spectrum there is a high focus on safety and security.The DHS being one of the largest governmental agencies is like and umbrella to many different agencies.One of the articles stemming from the science and technology division was very informative and talked about opening the new center for excellence. This will help facilitate multiple research endeavors that provide information to help our nation in its vulnerable areas. There is a lot of security measures that must be taken in order to ensure the safety of products that need to be transported not only for the senders but also for the safety of others.(dhs.gov) The goal is to also to stop the transportation of illegal or harmful products. There is a plan called the National Strategy for Global Supply Chain Security which focuses on “the worldwide network of transportation, postal, and shipping pathways, assets, and infrastructures, including communications and information infrastructures” (dhs.gov.) This strategy allows for the Department of Homeland Security to strategize and prevent disasters to happen than can possibility put people at risk. After the events of 9/11, DHS has significantly expanded its ability to track and disrupt terrorist and criminal financing. This has reduced criminal activity which includes money laundering and illegal products.The section relates to the past discussions because its focus is to maintain security within the country, and the various ways hazards can happen if guidelines aren’t created. A security measure such as this addresses the many possible ways a terrorist can strike. If shipment is not properly search and inspected, things such as explosives, weapons or biological weapons can be brought. Sometimes certain objects such as plants or animal species can be harmful to the nations ecosystem. This how native species of plants are sometimes put at risk for endangered. All these things are analysis and controlled under the Department of Homeland Security in order to maintain the safety of the US.case 3So the page i ended up scrolling and clicking to was the “How do i?” page, this then took me in the direction of finding the official website that provides law enforcement professionals with training. Currently we are in a time where what were currently learning in class has a hand in hand current event. with Covid-19 rocking the world right before a massive civil rights movement. I can say that I am proud of choosing public safety admiration as my major and I am now more motivated than ever to become a police officer. In lew of current events and what we’ve been learning in class it is imperative that they add training programs that better help officers react in situations that may lead to a potentially fatal shooting. Whether black, white Asian, or Hispanic everyone must be treated fairly by the police. I am a firm believer that most police officers do their job the correct way, they risk their lives every single day to protect you and your family. We may not all agree, and I do not mean to spark a discussion here about it. However, I felt like the training site didn’t include enough or any programs to help educate and prevent such things like what happened to Mr Floyd happen again. I am now more motivated and prouder to be a part of this major and I feel that I will be better prepared to go into the police force and the emergency management field.
