Discuss Higher education values.

Purpose. Higher education values your critical thinking: your ability to go comprehend a text and discuss its significant implications. What does it relate to in your communities and society? How do the ideas in the text solve or create a problem? How can or should we use the information presented? In our class, we will focus more on these questions than proving a point, persuading an audience, or making an argument. Task. Your first analysis is of Steven Alvarez’s “Taco Literacies” article. Once you have completed the readings, taken notes on them, and done the rhetorical & extended analyses, please put all that work together to write a rhetorical analysis of the article. NOTE: You do not need to have experience writing a rhetorical analysis to do this work! You are well-prepared for it already.Learning outcomes. This assignment will allow you to fulfill the following learning outcomes:Read and interpret a range of texts, including peer-reviewed journal articles, with attention to their rhetorical features and positioning within a broader discourse community.Recognize and evaluate claims, evidence, and underlying assumptions in various texts.Paragraph 1. General introduction to the topic and context. What do your readers need to understand before they learn more from you about Alvarez’s work? Think about back to basics here: who, what, where, when, why, and how? Don’t worry about an icebreaker; the background information you’ll provide is important for this work. Paragraph 2. What is happening in the world that he responds to? What “big issues” is he writing about? How do those issues affect him and his decisions? Paragraph 3. What is his class? Where is it taught? Who takes the class? What do they focus on? Paragraph 4. Why did Alvarez design this class? How does it help students or communities? Why does he think it’s important? Paragraph 5-6. What do you notice about the article? How do your observations relate to the background information you provided in paragraph 1?Paragraph 6 or 7. How does Alvarez think the class could be improved, modified, or expanded on? What do you think about his ideas? How do you think it could be improved, modified, or expanded on? Why? What information in the article is unclear or unresolved or missing? Paragraph 7 or 8, optional. Based on Alvarez’s model, what course do you think could be added to the PSC English Department? What would its topic be, and what would it explore in the community? Why would it be a good idea to offer this course? Who would benefit from taking it? What kind of person should teach it? What needs would it meet?
