Discuss The Moonlight Sonata : 1st movement was written in 1801.

Professor Re May 5, 2020 Revised Concert Report If I could attend my “ideal” concert based on the genres covered in class, here is what I would enjoy seeing. I chose the Composer Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677) and her piece, Lagrime Mie. Next I chose Ludwig Van Beethoven (1770-1827) and his piece Moonlight Sonata : 1st movement. The final piece I chose was by composer Guillaume De Machaut (1300-1377) and is piece Messe De Nostre Dame. In Strozzi’s piece it is the single voice of a soprano, accompanied by a lute player, a viola and a harpsichord. In Beethoven’s piece it is just a pianist, and finally Machaut’s piece is an ensemble organum. Each piece is different in their own wat, but they show throughout music and history how during the middle ages at first was just voices singing mono toned and alone without any instruments. Then in the Baroque period it is one single voice, accompanied by at least one, or more instruments. Born on August 16, 1619 in Venice, Italy and was adopted by parents, Giulio Strozzi, and Isabella Garzoni. Strozzi is best known for her eight volumes of music, which happened to be mostly arias and cantanas. She is one of the first female composers to ever get her music printed during this era. Strozzi was also a beautiful singer who had an amazing soprano tone.Lagrime Mie was written between 1644 and 1664, in the Baroque period. This particular piece is known to be a cantana, something pretty common that Strozzi wrote. “What to listen for” : The slow, beautiful melody as the cantana goes on. Throughout the tone tends to change to the story the singer is trying to tell why she sings. Sadly he dies on March 26th, 1827 in Vienna, Austria. Beethoven is an incredible composer and pianist who was taught music by his father. Beethoven wrote nine symphonies, one opera, 32 piano sonatas and five piano concertos. Beethoven is very important to music history because he was an important composer between the Classical and Baroque styles of music. The Moonlight Sonata : 1st movement was written in 1801. This piece was written because it reminded composer, Beethoven of a moon setting over a lake. Overall this composition made me feel sad in a way. It is a beautiful piece but has its own type of mysterious, gloomy feeling to it which is probably because it is in C#. It is also sweet and less creepy or spooky as the song goes along by the 4th minute mark.
