Personally, I do not do well with confrontation, so this will serve as a learning experience for me. While it does make me uneasy to be in confrontational situations, when it comes to advocating for a vulnerable population, it seems extremely worth the uneasiness. Depending on the situation and audience, advocates can choose different ways to use combative persuasion. When advocating for LGBTQ rights on adoption, I would use an adversarial debate. Adversarial debates have three parties involved, the advocate, an audience of observers and the person they are trying to sway, the adversary (Jansson, 2018). I believe this would be the most helpful in securing LGBTQ adoption rights. It is helpful because it would allow me to educate a large population about the injustices and the lack of nondiscrimination laws protecting LGBTQ from adopting. This is where I would use the research I have found regarding this topic. It is important to use this platform to educate because the audience may not be aware of the types on injustices that are occurring. When a group of people take the time to learn something, and have the ability to really understand it, their opinion on the subject may change. It would be my every intention to persuade all people in attendance of the debate.
