The scientific method begins with experiments and observations. These results then become models that are tested to reveal new data. These models change accordingly through time. This has made it difficult for many people to discern true science from pseudoscience, as there are no controls on the information. The consequences of this could be severe if the widespread acceptance of pseudoscience remains unchecked. Because there are no controls on much of this information, non-science is freely distributed as legitimate scientific findings. For example, the anti-vaccine movement, which is scientifically false, has led to deaths from diseases that are preventable through vaccination.
