Overview and Rationale Big data is often used in the private sector to make business decisions. However, big data can also be used by local and state government to make management decisions. This case study you will introduce you to the use of big data in a public policy context, gain insight into the thinking behind a decision to use data analytics, and assess the continuity of a big data project. Assignment Summary To begin this assignment, read the “Compstat to Gov 2.0: Big Data in New York City Management” case study. Then, in a paper, summarize the case, focusing on relevant facts and provide an analysis of the case. Finally, make recommendations as to the future of the Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics (MODA). Format & Guidelines The paper should follow the following format: Summary: Provide a short summary of the case. The summary is a short statement of the most relevant facts of the case. It is not an introduction to the case as presented in the case document.Analysis: Describe the main issues of the case and the options with respect to those issues. Briefly provide arguments in favor and against each option.
