Uncategorized Assignment-helpThe Symposium is an event that takes place near the end of English 1110 and for which you will prepare a short digital multimedia presentation (approximately 5 minutes) on a topic that is relevant to the course theme. The Symposium Presentation is a sequence of 15 slides that you will design, create, and narrate for a public audience of your peers using Adobe Spark in either its Page or Video format (see the extensive documentation on using Spark in Carmen.)You have already been preparing for this assignment through the process posts that ask you to find and consider the importance of images related to your research project. Given that this assignment asks you to find others’ images to use in your presentation, an important aspect of the Symposium concerns intellectual property: who owns the rights to photos, videos, or other texts, and under what circumstances those texts can or can’t be used in new works. Your own text will be presented in a format that uses materials others have made, so you are entering into a realm that requires you to be confident and capable in your understanding of intellectual property. This confidence and capability is part of being a producer in the digital world. Therefore, as part of the Symposium, you will be asked to demonstrate that you understand the intellectual property rights that govern various parts of your presentation. The Symposium consists of several parts — selection and documentation of appropriate images, a script, and constructive discussion of each other’s presentations — as well as the Process Posts that connect the Symposium to the Analytical Research Project.Write about images that connect to both your ARP and your Symposium Presentation. The images you will be asked to find are images that do not merely illustrate topics associated with your research or the course theme, but rather images that raise questions, suggest new ideas, or highlight tensions. The practice of finding these images will lead into image selection for your Symposium Presentation. The Process Posts will give you an opportunity to reflect on, discuss, and expand the ideas you are thinking about and the variety of images you have found. They will also prove important in allowing you to choose and refine a strong topic for your Symposium Presentation: a topic that is connected to the research for your Analytical Research Project, and that can also be effectively presented within the format and time limits of the project.Selection and Documentation of Appropriate ImagesOver the course of the semester, you will work to find and choose the 15 images that will make up the visual part of your Symposium Presentation. You will select images that clearly and powerfully communicate ideas as part of a coherently structured presentation. You will also appropriately cite these images and demonstrate that you understand the rules of copyright that control how they may be used.
