It is applied in recruitment, job analysis, orientation appraising, retaining employees, and employee discipline. The discussion below will be addressing the issues of who should appraise an employee performance and putting it together as far as managing human resources is concerned. Employee performance appraisal can be conducted to; improve an organization’s productivity, dictate requirements for a job, assess employees’ performance as per job requirements, and make sound decisions in promoting and terminating employees. There are various types of appraisals in organizations, such as the manager performance, employee self-appraisal, general performance, and the 360-degree appraisal. The latter approach includes subordinates, co-workers, and managers of an organization rating an employee’s performance anonymously (Chopra, 2017). Such an appraisal is comparatively preferable in most organizations because an employee’s strengths and weaknesses are exposed by the anonymous respondents such as co-workers and subordinates of an employee who interact most with the person being appraised. The responses from all incorporated persons are after that combined to rate an employee. Therefore, it might be more comfortable to realize development opportunities in an employee when many people give feedback about an individual. Also, the 360-degree appraisal strategy offers an employee a chance to know their perception in an organization.People anonymously tell how someone conducts themselves amidst other members of the organization, and therefore the person knows whether to improve or maintain their behaviors. Also, the multi-sourced information spares a person from biased judgment based on gender, race, and age (El Haddad et al., 2018). However, for a 360-degree appraisal process to be effective, persons allowed to give feedback are not supposed to be too close to them to avoid the tendency to conceal their colleagues’ weaknesses, and neither should the managers conclude basing them on employees’ weaknesses only. In addition, the 360-degree appraisal can bring more reliable results in an organization that intends to carry out transparent ratings for its employees.References:Chopra, R. The text says that “Jobs are multifaceted, and different people see different things. As the name implies, 360-degree feedback is intended to provide employees with as accurate a view of their performance as possible by getting input from all angles: supervisors, peers, subordinates, customers, and the like” (Snell, Morris, Bohlander 2016). This doesn’t sound like a multifaceted position, and without understanding how much exposure a call center staff has to other personnel, it’s hard to determine the number of “angles”. If the number is limited, meaning the call center staff have contact with a supervisor and customer, but no one else, there might not be enough exposure to get the full 360-degree view and I’m probably going to discourage it.At the end of the day, I think you would be able to get some okay self-evaluations, some decent manager feedback, and some great customer feedback. However, there is a chance customers are being cold called and that can skew the feedback if they are annoyed. Call centers typically monitor calls for quality so there would be some great data already available as the call center staff interacts with customers. The best person to evaluate performance would be a direct supervisor or an outside source to review and analyze the monitored calls. Maybe include a self-evaluation, but the recordings will not lie, so it would be interesting to see how the two compare.ReferencesSnell, S.A., Morris, S.S., & Bohlander, G.W. (2016).
