Your analysis is your attempt to experiment with what you are learning and to continue to develop your critical skills for reading texts. Please challenge yourself! Your analyses over the course of the semester should hopefully continue to get better each week. I should also emphasize that there is no right answer. Instead consider the analysis as an invitation to dive into the richness and complexity of the texts. Biblical criticisms will be essential tools for reading the texts and I will encourage you to develop your ability using specific Biblical criticisms over the semester. Don’t feel like you have to do it all. I will often have a broad scattering of thoughts in my mini-lectures. For your analysis, I would encourage you to read the texts closely and to see a similar range of detail in the texts. You then have the added challenge of writing about what you see. When it comes time to write, please focus! Pick one or more passages or ideas you want to talk about. When I grade these assignments I will be looking for your efforts in using Biblical criticism, the care and closeness with which you are reading the texts, and also the depth of your analysis and engagement. Let me also emphasize that you should not be using any outside resources. The point of this assignment is for you to work closely and directly with the Biblical texts. Additional resources will only distract you from engaging the texts yourself.
