Your audience is your supervising attorney, who needs additional research on the issue. You work in a medium-sized firm, where the environment is laid back but professional.Read and follow these instructions carefully.Remember to first familiarize yourself with legal correspondence and opinion letters by completing the reading for this chapter. Please see Module Three for these details. Note: Not all chapter sections will be relevant to writing an opinion letter, and you can safely omit the elements discussed in these sections from your finished letter. Refer to the sample opinion letter found in Module Three or google a few more on your own for comparison. Another resource is www.law.cuny.edu/legal-writing/students/client-letter.html (Links to an external site.). Only the standard components of these samples (reference line, salutation, and so forth) should be similar to yours when it is complete. Use the flow of the sample opinions you read as a guide to writing your own letter. The language of the statute that you will explain can also be found in Module Three. Read it carefully a few times with the chapter guidance in mind. Look up any words that you don’t know either in the back of your textbook or in an online legal dictionary. Outline and draft an opinion letter using the chapter material and sample letters as a guide. The outline is to help you construct and write your letter, so do not submit it for a grade. The writing process takes time to develop, and completing this writing assignment will be a more lengthy process than other things we’ve done thus far. Tip: Aim for having a finished letter a couple of days before it is due to give you time to reread, edit, reread and edit so that you can offer your best work. Consider having someone else critique it for you.Important: If you run into roadblocks in your understanding of the assignment or contract subject matter, outlining, drafting, writing or anything…post in the Student Lounge for my response.Submit as an attachment/upload in Canvas, not my email.
