Choose a current issue such as the global economy, homeland security, drought, wildfires, natural disasters, space, back to school, environment, 9/11, federal debt, trade, current politicians/world leaders, world conflicts, migrants, sports, stock market, or terrorists. Then, using a cartoon index on the Internet such as Daryl Cagle’s Professional Cartoonists Index (http://www.cagle.com) or a Web search of your own, find three to four cartoons that capture DIFFERENT perspectives on your issue. We are delving into the rhetoric and arguments of cartoons for our assignment. This assignment is a group project. The assignment requires three cartoons for the minimum score or four for the maximum score. Cartoon written analysis is due in Week 9. (this week!) In your Word document, discuss in paragraph form the rhetorical presentations of the cartoons. What are the mini-narrative, the main claim, the use of caricature, exaggeration, and/or distortion in each? What logical fallacies exist in the cartoon? How is kairos, or timeliness, important to each cartoon?
