Answer the following questions in an essay format. The essay should have a minimum of 500 words. A good essay should consist of an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. Please pay attention to clarity, organization, and coherence. In writing your essay, please follow the questions as guidelines to organize your ideas. Integrate everything in a formal essay.Essay Topic:During this semester, we discussed in class different cultures from many different societies. Some societies have cultures like ours, but others have very different cultures. So, for this essay, you must do the following:1. Choose one of the many MODERN/CONTEMPORARY (no ancient societies like the Inca, for example), societies. You could pick any society from any of the chapters of the book. You can pick a society by:•Interest•How the cultural practices of that society challenged your culture and worldviews.•Curiosity about a particular topic/situation (e.g., Why those people in India throw their babies from a tower? Why the Na of China does not practice marriage? Things that have seen in the documentaries)•Whatever reason (but you must discuss WHY in the essay)Maybe if you are a person with a multicultural/international background, you want to contrast your experiences dealing with different culturesYou can pick any of the societies that we study this semester (as long is not an ancient society) or something that caught your attention in the videos. Examples: The babies being thrown in India; the Na culture that does not have marriage as an institution; the different marriage practices that you saw in the video of marriage, do they still exist? Etc. Ask if you have doubts about what you want to do.2. Once you pick your society, do the following:a. Read/review the material discussed in class or in the book regarding your society and its culture (if picking one of the books)b. Find additional information about that society (basic information, if you cannot find information about all the topics below, it is ok, but you need to find information related to your reason for picking that society):Example: where is this society located? What is their language? Etc.c. Focus on a particular aspect of that society, USING the concepts you learned in class. For example, if you are doing a paper about the Hijras of India, try to use and define the concept of gender from Module 13. I want to see a link between what you are presenting and the concepts in the book. If you are talking about the Azande, you can use concepts learned in Module 15 (Politics and Social Order) or Module 16 (religion)Cultural Practices:Subsistence Practices (foragers, horticulturalists, pastoralists, etc.)Gender RolesFamily, Marriage, and KinshipPolitical Organization (band, tribe, chiefdom, etc.)Religious PracticesYou can use any source: book, Wikipedia, search engine, http://www.everyculture.com/, etc. Just make sure your sources in Wikipedia don’t have a lot of comments asking for edition. You can use websites, and you can support your data with documentaries and videos. What I want to see is the APPLICATION of the concepts you learned in class.3. With the information you found, write a formal essay:Presenting your information (as described in 2C) using the concepts learned in classExplaining why you picked that society and what do you wanted to know about itExplaining how that society/culture is different (or similar) to your culture/or cultures are similar or different. (A couple of sentences are enough)You can use support your essay with maps, pictures, timelines, and or diagrams (e.g., a map of the location of your civilization, picture of art style, diagram, etc. Figures must have a caption. The caption should include the description of what you are presenting and reference (if you are taking it from another book or website).4.
