This week we have focused on the concept of the soundscape: the acoustic environment as it is perceived by humans, within a specific context, virtually or actually. The soundscape points to the world-making properties of sound/music and how it can (de)construct an immersive environment in which to experience and give meaning to sonic vibrations.For this assignment, you are being asked to think about the soundscapes that your genre of expertise brings into being through sound, visuals, and text, whether real or imagined. You are being tasked to make an album cover that captures or communicates this soundscape. The album cover can be for a band and album of your own design (always adhering to the genre’s conventions) or you can redesign a classic album’s cover, bringing it into alignment with how you hear its soundscape.You are free to get as creative as you can. Obviously your phone and the internet is full of apps to edit photos. All campus libraries can give you access to photoshop, so feel free to take an original photo, edit an already existing one, make one digitally, or any combination of them to make an album cover that is representative of a soundscape you regularly inhabit through your listening.Finally, you will write a 500-word response describing your thought process and the choices that you made in making your album cover guided by the questions below.Guiding Questions:If you will make an original cover, think of the defining aesthetics of key album covers, singles artwork, or music videos for your genre of expertise. If you are going to remake a classic album cover, think about the individual tracks and the images they each conjure. For both, what ties these sonic images together and how can this bundle be best represented?In your write-up, answer these questions and address how/why they relate to the artistic choices you made in your album cover.Does your genre have a regional or national origin?
