Your task is to create an argument related to your Research Paper Topic that can be addressed to the general public—like those on the op-ed (opinion-editorial) page of a newspaper. It should address an issue that the “general public” is aware of and be written in a way that would appeal to their perspectives.

Determine your “public”—is it the student body of BCC, City of Barstow, the High Desert area, the state of California, or an even broader group? Each of these audiences has particular needs and values and will shape your tone and how you frame the argument.
Determine an issue regarding your research topic. This doesn’t have to be political or feel like a “weighty” issue, but it could be. Avoid overused and moral related issues, and if the issue is common, strive for a unique perspective and new insights to add to the ongoing discussion.
Find at least three sources (online sources are fine) to cite in your argument. However, at least one of the sources needs to be a peer-review scholarly source from the Library Database Research Tools.

3rd paragraph: Explain one side or perspective of the argument.

4th paragraph: Explain the counter side or perspective of the argument.

5th paragraph: Summarize each of your main points from each of the previous paragraph.

Length: At least 2 pages in MLA format (excludes Works Cited page).

Please plan accordingly to meet the deadline as no late submission will be accepted.
