Discuss the difference between Imports and Exports in a globalized economy, countries must participate in trade in order to generate revenue and obtain needed goods. Your assignment this week allows you to explore the import and export activity of your country and think about how geography plays a part.

Go to The Observatory of Economic Complexity, click on “Search” and then “Countries” at the top of the search page. You should be able to find your project country on the list. Select your country and read through the available data, paying close attention to the items imported and exported and chief trading partners. After reading through this information, scroll down to the visualizations.
For your assignment, provide the following information about your country’s activity:

Revenue generated through exports
Money spent on imports
Top three export destinations
Top three import partners
Top three exports (with percentages)
Top three imports (with percentages)
After providing this information, write a 300 word essay, discussing the relationships between geography and the patterns in the information. For example, if your country is a significant importer of food, what geographic factors might explain that?

Pro tip: After finding the top import and export partners, find all of those countries on a map to see if there might be some connections to be drawn between trade and location.
