While this will be a thesis driven essay, I want you to primarily make this textual, drawing your analysis from the videos posted as well as the stories themselves. I would suggest choosing two and not three of the stories, but I won’t require it. If you think you can handle all three, go for it! An A Paper will: – Consider at least two of the Baldwin, Welty, and Ellison in conversation with each other – Draw a conclusion based on the texts themselves – Use this textual analysis to draw a larger (if briefly or incompletely stated) conclusion on race in America in the first half of the 20th century – Be relatively free of mechanical errors This assignment should be a good opportunity to get your own point of view in an essay while being structured fairly concretely around very textual analysis.
