A university is retiring its old library management system and planning to develop a new system. Your team is asked to understand the requirements for the new system and develop a use case model.
Librarians use the system to update the inventory of items available in the library. Items may include books, magazines, and journals. When a new item needs to be ordered, library personnel can use the system to place the order and the system will send the order to the publisher. Publishers have their own order management system that is capable of electronically receiving orders from the university’s library management system. When the ordered items arrive from the publisher at the library, the librarians have to update their inventory with the new items that have been added to the collection.
Librarians use the system to allow patrons, who are either students, alumni or faculty members, to loan items. Items can be loaned for up to 30 days at a time. Before an item can be loaned the patron needs to have an account in the system. Patrons can renew their loans or reserve items currently on loan to some other patron using this system through the Internet.
