Public health issues are complex and are usually influenced by multiple factors. To advocate for any public health issue, nurses must be knowledgable about factors that influence the issue to know how to advocate for change. Advocacy may exist at the organizational level, for changes within the community, or policy changes depending on the issue.

For this paper, choose a community/public health issue from the word cloud (wordle) below (or contact the instructor if you have another community health issue you would like to select) – this topic should be a different health issue than you discussed in Paper #1. Research and analyze influencing factors affecting this public health issue. What is the role of the nurse as a community change advocate at the community level in helping improve this community/public health issue? Note the term community change advocate – this term means advocating for change at the community level, not at the individual level, so interventions/solutions should be at the community/population level.
