Based on Chapin’s concept of claimsmaking (Chs. 1, 5, and 6), analyze a recent newspaper or magazine article or news media post (from a reliable news outlet) that describes claims made in the policy development process. The article might focus on claims made while the policy is being considered by a legislative body or claims made by advocates who are trying to change law that has already been adopted. In your paper, describe the policy, the claims made by advocates and/or opponents, and whether the claims meet the third and fourth principles found in Chapin’s Principles of Strengths Perspective Policy (See Quick Guide 3 on page 210 in the 4th edition textbook, or Week 1 slides for a list of Chapin’s principles). This is a 2 -3 page paper. Include a copy of the article or link to the article in your paper.
