Hypothesis testing is required to develop the conclusion about the research. Null Hypothesis and Alternative hypothesis are tested to evaluate the data gathered. Quality research will provide data pattern which provide enough evidence to draw conclusion and reject or accept null hypothesis. There are two ways of testing i.e. One Tailed or Two Tailed testing. A one tailed testing is used when data gathered falls in one direction of analysis, either in favor of hypothesis or going in opposite direction. Two Tailed testing is used when data gathered is going in both direction of hypothesis.

The confidence interval (CI) provide range of values that are set close to the mean either in a positive or negative direction. For the null to be rejected, 95% of the values need to set close to the mean. There is not 100% certainty that either of these possibilities could be true. The CI reflects the risk of the researcher being wrong. It is important that the statistical analysis of the data and its associated probability are true The basis of rejection or failure to reject the null hypothesis is based on the CI of 95% (Jammey Ambrose 2018).

Since health care providers are supposed to provide evidence based care, therefore research data needs to be properly analyzed using proper statistical methods including hypothesis testing. Improper hypothesis testing may affect health care providers’ ability to make clinical decisions without relying purely on the research investigators deemed level of significance (Jacob and Martin 2020).

In a hospital setting in Medical surgical Telematory department where get many elderly patients with high risk of fall incidence. A test of elderly patients for fall risk can have following null and alternative hypothesis

Null Hypothesis: Elderly patient living with family members at home have high risk of fall

Alternative Hypothesis: Elderly patients living with family members at home have low risk of fall.

A CI of 95% is needed to accept Null Hypothesis
