When reading one or both of these articles, think about what the author is trying to say about knowledge and institutional education. Ask yourself, how do I learn? How am I normally taught at school? Where do I see Paulo Freire’s description of a teacher-student relationship or his banking model concept? How is Manulani Meyer challenging “normal” ways of teaching and
learning and school? What are some of the ways Hawaiians think? How does that make you feel? Can you name a different way of knowing from your heritage that differs from western
institutional knowledge?
