How would you work with a client whose religious/spirituality beliefs differ from your personal beliefs? Specifically discuss how you would remain culturally competent and demonstrate respect for the client.
Discussion reply Joy:
Human Services practitioners need to know various skill sets in their work with individuals, groups, families, and communities. We need to understand how to interview people using appropriate questioning, network with agencies to find services for our consumers if we are case managers, and analyze a situation if we are doing case assessment and treatment planning. (Kinsella, 2015).
As a Human Service worker, I would take the opportunity to understand the client’s religions better; I would use the option to strengthen my Cultural and emotional intelligence. Be mindful of our end gain, which is to help and understand the client’s needs. no matter what their beliefs are, I will practice inclusive behavior when engaging with clients to ensure the comfort and trust of them to lead to effective communication.

Discussion post 2 Emily:
As a human services worker, you are going to come across many people who have much different lives, backgrounds, and even religious or spiritual beliefs than your own. It is important to put your own viewpoints or beliefs aside so that you can help a client to the best of your ability. The Code of Ethics that every human service worker follows should always be remembered when working with clients so that a nonjudgmental attitude is being portrayed and also allowing them to feel a sense of acceptance from you (Kinsella, 2014). I think that it would be important to include a spiritual assessment along with the initial assessment (Kinsella, 2014). With both items, you would be able to get some background knowledge on the client as to how you should proceed with their treatment plan. It would also allow you to figure out how much religion or spiritual beliefs are going to hold importance in the decisions they are going to make moving forward.
