FAMILY COMMUNICATION & HEALTH ACROSS THE LIFESPAN
Kickoff question: Our readings for this module highlighted how different approaches to coping within a relationship /family can have unintended consequences. For instance, Canzona et al. found the way individual members of a couple manage uncertainty about sexual health changes and the relationship can perpetuate suffering. We also learned about individual vs communal coping and how different ways of seeing and responding to cancer can support well-being or create relational distress. Reflect on these different coping responses to cancer within a family. How can we use this knowledge to create applied therapeutic or educational tools/resources to help families struggling with cancer? What could that look like?
