How do both limit the freedom of individuals and of society?
In the chapter, “Slavery, Civil Rights, and Abolitionist Perspectives Toward Prison,” Angela Davis states that, “In the twenty-first century, anti-prison activists insist that a fundamental requirement for the revitalization of democracy is the long-overdue abolition of the prison system” (p. 39). What are the connections between the institution of slavery and the prison system? How do both limit the freedom of individuals and of society?
