First read the files I uploaded as the essay is based on the article.
Identify which specific sub-theme you will focus on.
• Identify from a major newspaper or magazine (New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Globe and Mail, La Presse, The Economist, etc.) at least one article from the last 6 months that discusses an event or issue of relevance: e.g., an article about corporate objectives or AI and algorithms.
• Do a quick search on this event or issue to find related articles in the popular media. These can be more than 6 months old.
• Once you have a grasp of the particulars of the event or issue (usually requires reading 3-4 media articles, depending on length), use readings from the session, and other relevant readings from academic sources, to gain insight into the event or issue and/or to support or challenge ideas in the readings. If you are having trouble doing this, re-read the articles from class in greater depth to find connections not immediately obvious, or go back to step 2 and identify another event or issue.
• Write an essay of 1000 words (excluding references, provide word count on front page of essay) that connects the readings to the issue. For example, how do the readings help us gain a better understanding of the issue? Or, how does the issue support or contradict aspects of the readings?
The goal here is simple: show that you have thought carefully about and understood the readings, using the current issue as a means of doing so. You will be judged on how well you demonstrate knowledge of the topic. This includes using readings from the relevant session, and any other relevant readings you identify.
