The current global pandemic has shown how we view various professions differently. Positions like CEOs, financial advisors, athletes, and actors often receive large salaries and a great deal of respect. In contrast, other jobs pay low wages and are often less respected even though they are important for societies. During this health crisis, it has become clear that many low paying jobs are important for a functioning society. These are jobs like farm workers, factory workers, nurses, teachers, bus drivers, delivery people, and cashiers. Some have argued businesses and government sectors should provide a “fair wage” to such essential employees. A fair wage is an income that is enough to cover basic needs and support a decent living.
